REFLEXOLOGY
ALTHOUGH I AM CONVINCED OF THE BENEFITS OF RELEXOLOGY I WILL NO LONGER BE TAKING ON NEW CLIENTS FOR THIS PARTICULAR MODALITY. I CAN REFER TO OTHERS IN THIS PARTICULAR THERAPY IF NECESSARY. PLEASE CALL ME FOR REFERRAL DETAILS.
I trained as a Reflexologist with the British School of Reflexology in 1995 and have been practitioner since early 1996. It was my own experiences of receiving reflexology that confirmed to me how valuable and beneficial this ancient science can be. Having been on the receiving end of this marvellous therapy I decided to become a practitioner myself.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a science that deals with the principle that there are reflexes in the feet that relate to all organs, parts and functions of the human body.
It has been known to mankind for many thousands of years and there is evidence that it was used by the early Egyptian, Chinese and Indian peoples. It was introduced to the West in the early part of this century by Eunice Ingram (and others).
There are over 7,000 nerve endings in your feet, 26 bones, 20 muscles, 100 ligaments and an intricate network of blood vessels. Acting as a mirror of the body, any tension or sensitivity in a part of the foot indicates congestion in a corresponding part of the body.
Reflexology is a pressure therapy and not a foot massage. The pressure applied to specific points on the feet trigger a stimulus via the nerve endings and the central nervous system to body parts. by working on these points the flow of energy throughout the body is stimulated, tension is eased, with circulation and elimination being improved. Reflexology is therefore used to restore and maintain the body's natural balance, encouraging healing.
How Reflexology Can Help
Reflexology treats the whole person, not just the symptoms and is suitable for all age groups and conditions. It is totally safe and non-invasive, the only instruments used are the practitioners' hands. It will not interfere with any prescribed medication and can therefore be used alongside any medical treatment you may be having.
Among its many benefits a course of reflexology treatments relaxes tension, improves nerve and blood supply and stimulates the body's natural immune system. This therapy helps bring relief to a wide range of complaints, from everyday ailments to chronic conditions, and as a gentle holistic therapy, most people undertaking treatment experience a feeling of well-being that has perhaps been missing for some time.
Anyone undergoing a course of reflexology needs to realise that a number of treatments will be required. This can vary according to the person, the condition and their lifestyle, but it is worth realising that a minimum of four to six weekly treatments would be initially recommended.
